JIVE TALKIN'

ALLIGATOR - A swing fan.
ARMSTRONGS - High pitched notes, from Loius Armstrong's playing.
BELLY WARMER - Necktie
CAT - A guy, also "Kitten" a girl.
COPASETIC - The tops
DEAD HOOFER - Bad dancer
FRAME - Body /Physique
GABRIELS - Horn players
GASSER - Sensational
GROUND GRIPPERS - New Shoes
HEP - More than just "to know" also understand/feel . As in "Hep Cat", "Hep to the Groove" etc.
ICKY - A non jitterbug, a stupid person.
JELLY - Free
KILLER DILLER - A thriller
KNOCK - to give/throw, as in "Knock me a Kiss".
LID - Hat
NAILS - Cigarettes
ONE ON THE CITY - A glass of tap water
PULLEYS - Suspenders (US), Braces (UK)
REET - Fine
RIGHTEOUS - the best
ROCK'N'ROLL - Originally a ephemism for sex as in "I'm going to rock and roll you all night long".
RUG CUTTER - A great dancer.
Also "to cut a rug" - to dance.
Originates from house parties when the carpets would be taken up to create a dance floor.
SEND - to move a person, emotionally
SHARP - Smart, as in a sharp suit.
SQUARE - The opposite of a hep cat, someone who does't know. Originally a square was someone who had just arrived from the country to the big city. They could only square dance.
SOLID - Great
STOMPERS - Shoes
TEA - Marijuana
TOGGED TO THE BRICKS - Dressed in your finest clothes
TWISTER TO THE SLAMMER - Key to the door.

Five Week Intensive Courses

HOLLYWOOD SWING 1
This course is designed to teach all the basic footwork, moves & styling. Emphasis will be on a basic 6 count rhythm and is ideal for complete beginners or as an introduction for those who have danced other swing dance styles.
5 week courses start: Mon 14th Oct (7.00pm - 8.00pm), Thurs 24th Oct (7.15pm - 8.15pm), Wed 13th Nov (6.30pm -7.30pm). Cost £35 per person.

HOLLYWOOD SWING 2
This course assumes participants have mastered all the basic 6 count styling and footwork.
The course will concentrate on 8 count figures with particular emphasis on “The Whip” (the classic Hollywood move) and it’s variations. To participate in this course you must have done Hollywood Swing 1 or attended one of our “Introduction to Hollywood” workshops, or have previous experience in this style.
5 week courses start: Thurs 24th Oct (8.30pm - 9.30pm), Mon 18th Nov (7.00pm - 8.00pm). Cost £35 per person.
(SPECIAL OFFER: Book onto HS2 when you book HS1 & the cost is reduced to £25 per person for HS2)

HOLLYWOOD SWING THREE
 Not for beginners! This course assumes you are familiar with all the basic 6 & 8 count patterns and are familiar with Hollywood styling. You will be increasing your repertoire with more moves and variations and develop your styling. The difficulty level will increase.
5 week courses start: Mon 14th Oct (8.15pm - 9.15pm), Wed 13th Nov (7.45pm - 8.45pm). Cost £35 per person.
(SPECIAL OFFER: Book onto HS3 when you book HS2 and the cost is reduced to £25 per person for HS3)

HOLLYWOOD SWING FOUR
Again strictly for those who have participated in our other Hollywood Swing courses or have done this style previously to an intermediate level or beyond.
5 week course starts: Mon 18th Nov (8.15pm - 9.15pm). Cost £35 per person.
(SPECIAL OFFER: Book onto HS4 when you book HS3 and the cost is reduced to £25 per person for HS4)

One Day Workshops
1.00am - 4.00pm (Lunch Break 1.00pm - 2.00pm)

INTRODUCTION TO HOLLYWOOD
An intensive course designed to give you a basic grounding in Hollywood Style. All the basic moves and styling compressed into one day. Ideal for complete beginners or for people who have done other swing styles and want to get to grips with Dean Collins’ styling.
£25 per person or £45 if you book as a couple.
Workshops are held on Saturday 5th October, Saturday 9th November. and Saturday 30th November
